With starting drug distribution this week I thought it would be a good opportunity to brush up on some med safety with the med safety game.
I learned the following med safety facts:
- Only an RN can administer IV medications, not LPN
- Pt’s can use their own medications if the physician has written an order that they can use their own meds and that the meds have been identified by pharmacy
- A patient assignment can be changed (LPN to RN, vice versa) to accommodate the patient’s needs within the nurse’s scope of practice.
- In acute care LPNs are responsible for participating in narcotic counts and resolving discrepancies.

This was a great review of interesting problems that I may encounter on this rotation!
