Stress is an ongoing component of most of our lives, and work has been noted to be a huge contributing factor (more than divorce!). As healthcare providers we can be compassion over-loaded, and this can result in poor stress management. FH offers counselling for stressful situation for healthcare providers, which is good to note! Stress management can include things such as proper sleep, adequate nutrition, exercise, and a good support network. As I enter the mid portion of the residency year I continue to be mindful of when my stress is starting to boil over and working with different strategies that have worked for me historically to manage that stress.
